Can't fall asleep?

Press these 3 points — and your nervous system gets the "rest now" signal.

You don't need another pill. Chinese acupressure has three go-to points that tell a racing mind it's safe to power down — done lying down, in about 60 seconds, with just your thumbs. Here's exactly where they are and how to press.

The 3-point sleep fix, in order

Press each for 30–60 seconds, both sides where noted. Lights low, phone away. Don't try to sleep — just let the points do their job.

1 · HT7 Shénmén 神门 · "Spirit Gate"
On the inner wrist, in the small hollow on the pinky-side crease (between the two wrist tendons).
Circle gently with your thumb, 30–60s on each wrist.
Feels like: a soft ache that quiets mental chatter.
2 · EX-HN3 Yìntáng 印堂 · "Third Eye"
Midline, between the eyebrows — the soft spot just above the bridge of the nose.
Slow circle with your thumb, 30–60s. Breathe into it.
Feels like: the brow unclenches, the breath deepens.
3 · KI1 Yǒngquán 涌泉 · "Bubbling Spring"
On the sole, in the hollow just behind the ball of the foot (press the toes down to find it).
Firm thumb press, 60s each foot — or roll a tennis ball under the sole.
Feels like: a grounding pull that draws energy down and out of the head.

Acupressure doesn't sedate you. It helps the body shift out of "alert" mode — which is usually the only thing standing between you and sleep.

Common questions

How do these points help you sleep?
Acupressure stimulates nerve endings that signal the parasympathetic ("rest and digest") system, which lowers heart rate and quiets a racing mind. It doesn't sedate you — it helps the body shift out of alert mode.
How long until it works?
Most people feel the breath slow within 30–60 seconds of pressing a point. Do all three lying down, lights low, and let sleep come rather than forcing it.
Is acupressure for sleep safe?
For most adults it's a gentle, drug-free practice. It is educational, not medical advice. Avoid during pregnancy for certain points (e.g. Spleen 6, Large Intestine 4), and consult a clinician for chronic insomnia.
Can I use this instead of melatonin?
Many use it as a first step before reaching for supplements. Unlike melatonin it has no grogginess risk and costs nothing, but it is not a substitute for medical care.
